Guangzhou International Commercial Port(GICP,广州国际商业港) is a major new international trade and commercial development being built in Huadu District, Guangzhou, northwest of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. It is one of Guangzhou’s strategic projects for upgrading its international trade and commercial capabilities.
Importantly, it is currently a developing project rather than an established wholesale market. In August–September 2026, the project moved from planning into actual land development and implementation.
You will Learn in this Post
1. Location
The project is in the Huadu District airport-area economic zone, northwest of Baiyun International Airport.
Its total planned area is approximately 9.86 km².
The transportation advantages are significant:
- Close to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport
- Guangzhou East Ring Intercity Railway — Huashan Station
- Connected with the Daguang Expressway
- Pearl River Delta Ring Expressway
- Beijing–Hong Kong–Macau Expressway
- Approximately one rail stop to Baiyun Airport
- Approximately two stops to Guangzhou North Railway Station
- Government planning materials indicate roughly 30 minutes to central Guangzhou business districts and about 100 minutes to major cities in the Greater Bay Area.
This combination of airport + railway + expressways + commercial facilities is one of the project’s biggest advantages.
2. What is Guangzhou International Commercial Port?
It is best understood as a new-generation international commercial and trade hub, rather than a traditional physical “port.”
The government’s stated positioning is to create a high-level platform integrating:
International trade + wholesale + exhibition + commercial services + digital commerce + supply chain + consumption
One of its important strategic concepts is to help Guangzhou build a “永不落幕的广交会” — “an everlasting Canton Fair.”
The project is intended to bring together buyers, suppliers, brands, manufacturers, trading companies, exhibitions and commercial services in one large ecosystem.
The city’s planning committee has described it as a high-end, intelligent commercial port integrating “living, business and production”.
3. Scale
The overall planned area is:
9.86 million m² / 9.86 km²
The planned core area is approximately:
186 hectares
with approximately 2.21 million m² of building area planned for the core area.
The first-phase land area is approximately 2,790 mu, with the first development zone covering about 990 mu.
A first commercial-market project is already moving forward.
In September 2026, Guangzhou issued the construction land planning permit for Guangzhou International Commercial Port Phase I, located south of Huadu Avenue and east of Xinhua Avenue. The land area is approximately 250,490 m², with uses including retail commercial and business/financial services.
There is also a specifically planned:
“Phase I — Centralized Commodity Trading Market No. 1”
at this location.
4. What businesses are expected to be there?
The development is intended to cover a wide range of commercial activities rather than one single product category.
Potential areas include:
- International wholesale
- Commodity trading
- Brand exhibition
- Product display
- Trade fairs
- Cross-border e-commerce
- International purchasing
- Supply-chain services
- Business services
- Fashion and consumer products
- Digital commerce
- International consumption
- Logistics-related services
Recent government planning also mentions international flagship stores, bonded cross-border consumption, high-end tourism/experience businesses and exhibition-related commerce.
5. Why it could be important for jewelry
For stainless-steel jewelry, titanium-steel jewelry and fashion jewelry, I think this project is particularly worth watching.
Guangzhou already has important jewelry-related commercial clusters, but Guangzhou International Commercial Port is being designed around a different concept:
Factory → Brand → Exhibition → Wholesale → International buyer → Cross-border trade
That could be useful for companies that want to move beyond simply selling products through traditional wholesale markets.
For example, a stainless-steel jewelry company could potentially use the ecosystem for:
Manufacturing in Dongguan/Zhaoqing/Foshan
↓
Samples and collections displayed in Guangzhou
↓
International buyers visit the commercial port
↓
Wholesale / OEM / ODM orders
↓
Cross-border e-commerce or export logistics
The airport location is especially attractive for international buyers who want to visit Chinese suppliers in person.
6. Current development status — important
As of October 2026, I would not yet describe Guangzhou International Commercial Port as an operating wholesale market comparable to Yiwu International Trade City.
It is still in the development and construction stage.
The progress, however, has accelerated significantly during 2026:
- August 25, 2026: first-development-zone northern plot officially listed for land transfer.
- August 2026: Guangzhou officially emphasized high-standard construction of the project and accelerated investment attraction.
- September 2026: Phase I obtained its construction land planning permit.
- September 2026: the first centralized commodity trading market entered the planning/approval process.
- The stated development objective is “one year to start, three years to show results, five years to basically take shape.”
So, 2026–2030 will be an important period to watch.
7. Guangzhou International Commercial Port vs. Yiwu
For an international jewelry business, I would view them differently:
| Guangzhou International Commercial Port | Yiwu International Trade City | |
|---|---|---|
| Development stage | New development | Mature |
| Main positioning | International commercial/trade hub | Huge wholesale marketplace |
| International airport access | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ | ⭐⭐⭐ |
| Guangzhou/Foshan/Dongguan manufacturing access | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ | ⭐⭐⭐ |
| Traditional wholesale maturity | Developing | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ |
| Exhibition + trade | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ |
| Fashion/brand-oriented potential | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ |
| Stainless-steel jewelry sourcing | Potentially very strong | Very strong today |
| International buyer convenience | Very strong | Strong |
My assessment
For your stainless-steel jewelry sourcing/export business, Guangzhou International Commercial Port is worth following closely, but I would not replace existing jewelry sourcing locations with it yet.
Its biggest future advantage could be the combination of:
Guangzhou + Baiyun Airport + international buyers + exhibition + wholesale + manufacturing supply chain.
That makes it potentially more interesting for B2B jewelry export and OEM/ODM business than simply being another wholesale market.
