If your goal is to find real stainless-steel jewelry factories in China rather than trading companies, I’d use a combination of factory directories, Chinese search terms, and direct verification.
You will Learn in this Post
1. Focus on the right manufacturing areas
For stainless-steel fashion jewelry, Guangdong is the first area I would investigate, particularly:
- Dongguan — strong stainless-steel jewelry/OEM manufacturing base.
- Guangzhou — large jewelry supplier ecosystem and many factory sales offices.
- Foshan — another Guangdong production cluster.
- Yiwu, Zhejiang — excellent for finding many suppliers and low-MOQ products, although you need to distinguish factories from trading companies.
Current supplier information also points to Dongguan and Foshan as important Guangdong clusters for stainless-steel jewelry.
2. Search using Chinese terms
This is one of the biggest advantages you can get.
Try these searches on , baidu, wechat, xiaohongshu, TikTok , or Google:
google is particularly useful because it is aimed at the Chinese domestic market, so you can uncover factories that don’t actively market themselves internationally.
3. Use xiaohongshu, but don’t trust “Manufacturer” blindly
Alibaba currently has a very large number of stainless-steel jewelry suppliers, including suppliers advertising OEM/ODM and 304/316L production.
For example, current listings include companies in Dongguan offering OEM stainless-steel jewelry.
When searching, filter for:
- Manufacturer
- OEM/ODM
- Factory audit/verification
- 3+ years operating history
- Video/factory inspection
- Customization
- Your required MOQ
But remember: an Alibaba “factory” can still be a trading company or a factory with outsourced production.
4. Build a shortlist of 10–20 factories
Don’t choose the first supplier with good photos.
I’d initially contact around 15 factories, then narrow them to 3–5.
Ask every supplier the exact same questions:
Are you the actual manufacturer or a trading company?
Where is your factory located?
Do you manufacture 316L stainless-steel jewelry in-house?
Which processes are done in-house?
What is your MOQ per design?
Can you make products from our drawings/CAD files?
Can you provide a sample before bulk production?
Can you provide material/test documentation for the specific production batch?
What plating/PVD process do you use?
What is your normal production lead time?
The answers will immediately separate many genuine manufacturers from resellers.
5. Verify that the factory actually exists
This is extremely important.
Ask for:
- Chinese company name
- Chinese business license
- Factory address
- Factory video
- Production-line photos
- Number of employees
- Main machinery
- Monthly production capacity
- Export markets
- Factory audit reports, if available
- Sample invoice/quotation showing the legal company name
Then check whether the Chinese company name/address is consistent across its website, Alibaba account, business license and payment account.
A supplier saying “factory direct” isn’t sufficient evidence.
6. Verify the steel grade
Don’t simply accept “316L” in the product description.
Ask:
“Is the base metal for this exact SKU 316L? Can you provide material documentation/test evidence for the production batch?”
This matters because some suppliers sell a mixture of 304, 316 and 316L products.
Also specify exactly what you want:
- 304 or 316L
- PVD gold/rose gold/silver finish
- PVD thickness if important
- Nickel-release requirements
- REACH requirements
- Logo engraving
- Packaging
- Stones
- Dimensions/tolerances
Some Chinese suppliers explicitly distinguish 304 and 316/316L on a SKU-by-SKU basis rather than treating their entire catalog as one material.
7. Look for factories that already do OEM
If you’re creating your own jewelry brand, don’t just search for “wholesale jewelry.”
Search for:
316L stainless steel jewelry OEM ODM factory China
That’s much more likely to find manufacturers capable of:
your design → CAD → mold → prototype → production → PVD/plating → QC → packaging
For example, current Guangdong suppliers advertise CAD/prototyping, OEM/ODM and custom stainless-steel production.
8. Always order samples
Before placing a large order, I’d do this:
Factory #1 → 3–5 samples
Factory #2 → 3–5 samples
Factory #3 → 3–5 samples
Then compare:
- Weight
- Steel quality
- Surface finishing
- PVD color
- Scratches
- Edges
- Clasps
- Welds
- Stone setting
- Logo quality
- Packaging
- Actual dimensions
- Sample vs. product photos
For a jewelry brand, the cheapest factory is rarely the best factory. Consistency between sample and mass production is more important.
9. Consider visiting China
If you’re planning substantial volumes, visiting the factories can be worthwhile.
I’d base the trip around Guangzhou/Dongguan/Foshan, rather than randomly visiting suppliers around China. You can arrange several factory visits over a few days.
You can also use a local sourcing/QC agent to visit factories if you can’t travel.
A practical sourcing strategy
If I were starting from scratch, I’d do:
Day 1–2: Search baidu + xiaohongshu + Google
↓
15–20 suppliers: collect company information and catalogs
↓
10 suppliers: ask standardized questions
↓
5 suppliers: request quotations + samples
↓
3 factories: inspect/verify deeply
↓
1–2 factories: pilot production
↓
Final factory: negotiate long-term pricing, QC standards and payment terms
There are also established Chinese suppliers publicly advertising stainless-steel OEM/ODM production; for example, current Guangzhou/Dongguan suppliers include These are useful leads to investigate, not endorsements.
If you tell me what type of jewelry you want (rings, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, etc.), your approximate MOQ, target price, and whether you need 316L/PVD, I can also research 10–15 actual Chinese factories and make you a shortlist with location, MOQ, OEM capability, website, and what each one specializes in.
